Bastiaan Brouwer
Researcher Postharvest Technology, specialisation in Postharvest Physiology and Omics
Bastiaan's expertise
Having been part of the PostHarvest Technology group since 2015, Bastiaan has been involved in finding answers to how and why product quality changes in reaction to different postharvest conditions and extended storage therein and how this can be measured in an objective manner. His work involves research on product physiology and includes hypothesis building and experiment design, developing and assessing measurable quality parameters, running experiments and reporting the results in bilateral and academic publications.
Examples of his work field over the years are:
- Quality of roses after dry transport
Quality of strawberry and pear during the postharvest chain
- Predicting moisture-related quality loss in pear
- Identifying volatile biomarkers to assess quality in potato, pear and red currant
Retention of soluble protein in stored sugar beet leaf material
Measuring firmness in blueberry and pear
